Police in the Merseyside area have urged parents to be extra vigilant, following an incident involving two men in a vehicle and a young girl.

According to reports, the 12-year-old girl was walking along Fernhurst Road at 7.45am on Tuesday morning, when a man got out of the passenger seat of white van parked at the roadside.

Initially, the man beckoned the young girl to come towards him, but when she didn’t he then tried to grab her. It is understood that another male was sitting in the driver seat of the vehicle.

The girl managed to run away unharmed, and she immediately reported the incident to her teacher when she got to school. The police were then contacted, and an investigation is now underway to determine the identities of the two men.

Addressing concerned members of the community, local Detective Inspector Paul Grounds said: “I would like to reassure the local community that we take all incidents of this nature extremely seriously, although they are thankfully rare.”

“I would urge anyone who may have information to get in touch and we will look into all information provided,” he added.

Anyone who may be able to assist police with their enquiries is asked to get in touch with Knowsley CID on (0151) 777 6561. Alternatively, you can contact Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
