Her due date with her second child is fast approaching, so we were not surprised to hear that Colombian singer Shakira had already drawn up plans for her baby shower.

However, we could not have been prepared for what she and fiancé Gerard Piqué have in mind to mark the impending arrival of their little one – a world baby shower.

The 37-year-old, who is a UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador, has unveiled plans to collaborate with the charity on the World Baby Shower campaign that will oversee the purchase and donation of gifts for mothers and mothers-to-be in need.

“Now that we are soon welcoming our second child we want to help other children around the world and also contribute to a long-lasting solution for getting children living in extreme poverty the supplies they need to survive,” said Shakira.

Those looking to lend a hand to a worthy cause can purchase gifts including midwifery kits, measles and polio vaccines, blankets, baby scale and therapeutic food that helps malnourished children. To do so, all they need do is log on to the World Baby Shower webpage and follow the instructions.

Releasing beautiful new family photos to accompany the campaign, Shakira added: “We also want other parents to feel compelled to do the same…and we want this movement to keep going long after our baby shower has ended, so we want to invite them to host their own baby showers with UNICEF as well.”

This is such a great idea. It’s always nice to see stars using their celebrity for a great cause.
