Ryan Reynolds has been visiting 13-year-old Connor McGrath for the past three years after the star played Connor’s favourite superhero Deadpool.

The actor was put in contact with the youngster who was battling cancer by the Make A Wish Foundation, and Ryan even arranged for the young Canadian to see a “rough cut” of the movie Deadpool before it was even finished.

In a post uploaded to Facebook, the 39-year-old star explained when how he last saw the youngster, whom he called Bubba, he didn’t know if he was “saying goodbye or see ya later.”

Adding that they met through a shared love of the movie, Ryan wrote: “We met because he loved Deadpool. In a certain sense he WAS Deadpool. Or, at least everything Deadpool aspires to be; balancing pain, fearlessness, love and a filthy (filthy!) sense of humor in one body [sic].”

“I wish he could've stuck around a lot longer.”

Sending his condolences to the McGrath family, the actor, who is reportedly expecting his second child with wife, Blake Lively, asked for people to donate to the Make A Wish Foundation.

“If you'd like to donate to the Make-A-Wish Foundation, I can pretty much guarantee, your money's going to a damn good place. These people do not suck. They are heroic. Full stop.”
