While most parents dread the less than glamorous side of parenting – nappies and sleepless nights to name but two – it seems Ryan Reynolds is not phased about the tough aspects of fatherhood.

The star, who is set to welcome his first child with wife Blake Lively, says that he is ready to embrace every aspect of his new role as a father.

Speaking at an event in New York over the weekend, the 38-year-old said: “I don’t have a weak stomach. I’m good with diapers and diarrhoea and all that kind of stuff because I have lots of nieces and nephews, so I’ve done it before.”

When asked what he is most looking forward to about impending parenthood, he gave a suitably adorable answer.

“I’m just excited about having a buddy. We don’t know if it’s a boy or a girl yet, but whatever it is, you have this tether to reality that never goes away,” he said.

What a beautiful sentiment. He is going to make a fantastic dad.

Blake and Ryan announced their wonderful news last month, with actress Blake sharing a beautiful photo of her baby bump on her website Preserve.

She went on to share a post about her baby shower and preparations, writing: “With a new baby on the way there is so much to do! But before experiencing the joy of 3 a.m. screams, seemingly impossible amounts of poop, and having a favorite shirt covered in reflux...there are presents to open, onesies to dye, there is cake to serve, advice to be shared, and all-around celebration to be had.”

What an exciting time for this lovely couple.
