Unless the teacher pulls you aside, it is hard to determine if your child is struggling in school. Children are often too embarrassed to let you know that they are findig it tough so here are a few signs you should keep an eye out for.

Avoid talking about school

If your little one is finding school tough you will notice that they become fidgety and restless when you ask questions about their day at school.

Suddenly become clingy

If your youngster, who normally rushed through the school gate in their excitement for class, suddenly becomes clingy when it’s school time you know something is up. if your little one is struggling they will become more
reliant on you, no matter what their age is.

Unusual behaviour

If your child suddenly becomes distant and withdrawn it may be a sign that there are issues in school. Make sure you investigate further as they may be struggling in subjects or there may be another underlying reason.

Exhibit aggression

Kids who are struggling in class can become quite aggressive when it is time to do their homework. Others often say they have no homework even if there is a pile of work that needs to be done. Make sure you check your kid's school bag when they come home - this way you will always be on top of work that needs to be done.

Takes a long time to complete homework

If your little one is staying up late trying to complete their homework or if a simple 10 minute assignment takes over 30 minutes you should consider talking to their teacher. Kids are not ones for asking for help, especially when it comes to homework.

They’re always saying they hate school

Most kids go through a phase of hating school but for some it is not a phase. It your child’s wailings of not liking school persist you should sit down with them and try to uncover what it is that they don’t like. For some, frustration about not being able to do their work can be the reason why they are so against going to school.

It is important you don’t let your youngster struggle year after year as they may fall so far behind that it becomes difficult to catch up.
