When little Freddie Gibson’s parents told him what a date was, it seemed he liked the sound of it, because he decided to save his birthday money to take Dee Dee, his ‘best friend in the whole world’, out for a meal.

And this lovely lad was all about propriety, sending an old-school invite in the post with the stipulation that she only came on the date once she turned five!

Freddie took his date very seriously, buying a special wallet to keep his money safe, and with the help of his mum Nina, picking some flowers for Dee Dee.

And as big pizza fans, the pair went to a local Pizza Express for their special meal, with Freddie decked out in a smart short sleeved shirt and waistcoat and his BFF rocking a cool floral crown.

“[Dee Dee’s mum] and I have known each other since our antenatal classes and the children have always had an incredibly close friendship,” Nina told The Mirror. “It was just the cutest trip out ever and it was so wonderful to see them have such a great time.”

And it seemed the date was a resounding success. “Dee Dee is my best friend in the whole world and I loved our date,” the happy lad said after his date. “I’d like to take Dee Dee on another date because she's beautiful.”

Ah bless!

And it seems Dee Dee is in agreement. “I really enjoyed going on a date with Freddie – especially the hearts on our ice cream!” she said.

“It really was the funniest thing,” said Dee Dee’s mum Katy. “An invite in the post (once Dee Dee had reached the respectable age of five), a tiny bouquet of flowers, a table for two by the window!”

The cutest thing or what? Something tells us Dee Dee better start saving her birthday pennies because it’s her shout next!
