To your five year old, the family is still the centre of the world. She will enjoy playing with other children and may develop a friendship or two. When your child starts school, the idea of being apart from you may upset your child.
Once your child is at school, your child will come into contact with new and different ideas and ways of behaving. Your child will have to adapt to a whole new way of living and a new set of rules which can be confusing for him.
Your child will begin to take notice of the difference between being a boy or a girl and you will begin to see that boys start playing with boys and vice versa.
Your five year old is developing his independence and is more in control of his behaviour. There will be fewer arguments and not as many tantrums. Although, don’t expect a miracle, there will still be the odd tantrum.
You will also find that your child can now be reasoned with and she will often ask is it ok for her to do something rather than just going ahead and doing it. She is now beginning to understand the difference between right and wrong and that she must follow rules.
