Parents across the UK have found themselves in a financial position where they have to use money from their children's savings accounts to get by.

These mums and dads have dipped into their little ones' money for a number of reasons, including everyday living costs.

One-fifth of parents polled confessed that they had borrowed money from their kids' bank account, with almost half of those who had done so using the money to pay the bills.

19 percent of parents who used their child's savings said they used it to buy groceries, while one in six parents used the funds to pay for childcare costs.

Despite this, many kids are still receiving pocket money.

Children are given an average of £23 a month for their allowance, according to the research that was carried out on the behalf of comparethemarket.com.

That adds up to a grand total of £276 each year, Closer reports!

Money Manager for comparethemarket.com Jody Coughlan said of the study's results, "Fortunately for kids, the wider squeeze on the household budget seems to have had little impact on the generous amounts parents want to give their children."

Are you surprised by any of these numbers, mums?
