Gisele Bundchen has never shied away from expressing her views on motherhood, so we’re not surprised by her latest comments about why mothers sometimes need to put themselves before their kids.

The supermodel, who previously said she believes there should be a “worldwide law” for women to breastfeed for the first six months of motherhood, has opened up on how she balances being a mum with her career.

Speaking to the Sunday Times, the 34-year-old said: “It’s very important to take care of yourself. You know how they say on the plane that you have to put the oxygen mask on first and then put it on your child? I think it is the same, as a mum, to take care of myself.”

The mother-of-two added: “You can feel a bit guilty…But if I’m feeling fulfilled and present and good about myself, then I’m going to be a much more patient, loving, understanding mother and wife.”

Gisele famously displayed her multitasking skills last year, when she tweeted a photo of herself breastfeeding her one-year-old daughter, Vivian, while being tended to by her hair and beauty team.

Married to American football star Tom Brady, Gisele is also mother to the couple’s four-year-old son, Benjamin.
