Taylor Swift’s warm way with children has really melted our hearts. The twenty- four- year-old singer is currently promoting her new album which is set to debut at #1 next week, but that didn’t stop her from taking some time to share her love of books, writing and music with over 100 school children.

Taylor chatted with a group of New York City public school kids at book publishers Scholastic’s Soho headquarters, but her messages reached far beyond the Big Apple! Dozens more children in Michigan and California got the opportunity to interact with the Grammy-award winning star via Skype and declared the Shake it Out singer ‘awesome’.

Taylor told the children that she wrote a 400 page novel when she was a teenager, but she finds writing song lyrics is what inspires her the most. Taylor is keen to open children to the world of books and recalls what reading did for her as a child. “I could read about other character’s feelings and other character’s lives and their triumphs and their downfalls and it took me to a place that alleviated the pain of my reality.”

Taylor has announced that a portion of proceeds from her album’s single Welcome to New York will go to New York City’s public schools.
