While they certainly aren't easy to deal with at the best of times, Kyle Nester, from Ohio, has at least proven that teenagers will step up when needed.

18-year-old Kyle and his little sister Madison have had an extremely tough time lately: 14 months ago they lost their 42-year-old father, Roy, and tragically, in February of this year, their mother, Tammy, passed away from kidney and liver failure.

And if that wasn't enough for the siblings to bear, Tammy, 46, didn't have an insurance policy in place.

However, in a act of true love and devotion, Kyle has stepped up to the plate and is now hoping to be granted full custody of his 15-year-old sister.

"I'm going to try and take guardianship of her and make sure she has everything she needs through college and everything," he told ABC 6.

"She's all I have left. So, I have to do everything for her."

A Go Fund Me page was set up by Sandra Butzer in a bid to raise $15K to help pay for their education.

"Please if you can find it in your heart to donate to these poor kids please do," she wrote.

"This puts in perspective that on any day anything can happen so please give the people you love an extra hug today and don't be afraid to say I love you. [sic]"
