Last year, Toby Penrose from Cornwall was diagnosed with Adrenoleukodystrophy.

Affecting one in 18,000, it's a rare inherited disorder affecting the adrenal glands and white matter of the brain, and it causes seizures, reduced mobility and a loss of vision, amongst other things.

Knowing their boy is terminally ill, his parents want the time he has left to be as fun as it can be.

So when Toby revealed his birthday wish was to sit in a Ferrari, his mum Emily did what any self-respecting mum of the 21st century would do: she took to social media.

On Facebook, she just came out with it and asked if anyone had a sports car that her son could hang out in for a few minutes.

While she was hoping someone would reply with a ‘yes’, Emily never expected the overwhelming response that she got.

Nine strangers responded to her post, and on Sunday, Toby was wheeled outside the Esplanade Hotel in Newquay, where a fleet of Ferraris were ready for him.

The joy it brought Toby was written all over his face – especially when he was allowed to rev the accelerators!

“He just sat in the red one with the biggest smile on his face I’ve ever seen,” Emily told The Daily Star.

“The support from all of these people, who most of them we’ve never met, is absolutely amazing. It really made his birthday. It means a lot to him and a lot to us.”
