Many kids, and even some mums, dream of turning the stairs in their home into a slide.

Think of how much easier it would be to get kids up in the morning if they knew there was a slide waiting for them outside their bedroom door.

This was the basis behind Trisha Cleveland’s SlideRider and working in conjunction with Quirky, Trisha’s invention may actually become a real product.

Quirky is an American company that works with ordinary people to help bring their inventions to life, believing “sharing your idea is the first step toward bringing your idea to life”.

When it comes to designing the inventions, the company gets their whole online community involved. They asked their followers to help choose the red and blue design and even the tagline “The Inside Slide”. In fact, the online community even helped to give the slide its name, SlideRider, although other suggestions included Stair Surfer, Coaster and even Zoomer.

The SlideRider folds up into a neatly stacked pile and has straps to secure it in place for easy storage – although the kids probably won’t let you put it away, ever.

It’s not all about fun though, as the slide includes safety rails to stop kids slipping off the sides and there is even a cushioned bottom for a nice, soft landing. The only problem is trying to get up the stairs after you slide down it.

Quirky are currently sourcing a manufacturer to bring the idea to life.
