As much as we love lounging on the sofa, with a glass of red in front of us and The Crown playing on the TV, we can’t help but feel guilty about our lifestyle choices.

Our sub-conscious is often fretting about whether we reached 10,000 steps whilst we’re sprawled out on the sofa, swooning over Prince Phillip.

Luckily, it looks like our so-called bad habits aren’t as bad as they may seem.

A new study has found that drinking a moderate amount of coffee, wine and being a tad bit overweight can make you live longer.

The study which was conducted by Professor Claudia Kawas of the University of California looked at the lifestyle habits of 1,700 people who were aged 90 and over.

The results of the study may surprise many of us who have often been shamed for gaining weight or for consuming drinks like red wine.

The team revealed that gaining a moderate amount of weight helps boost your lifespan, “The best mortality experience is to gain between five and ten pounds per decade,” said Professor Cladia Kawas.

She also added that drinking improves longevity, however, it’s important to remember to drink responsibly. Experts stated that drinking two glasses of wine reduced the rate of premature death by 18 percent.

The results are baffling, but Professor Kawas agrees that these factors boost life expectancy, “I have no explanation for it, but I do firmly believe that modest drinking improves longevity.”

They also found that doing something you love for at least two hours per day strengthened your chances of living longer.

This news is music to our ears.
