We adults often let petty things get in the way of relationships.

If a mate hasn't replied to our text within a few hours, we wonder if she's gone off us. If we meet someone of a different faith to us, we start doubting our ability to be mates.

Kids are much simpler - and wiser.

That's what mum Ayanna Toye Barrows was reminded of on a recent trip to the beach.

The Florida native was taking a walk at sunset with her young daughter when a little boy walked up and showed her his shark tooth necklace.

"He tells her his name and asks her name to which she tells him," Ayanna wrote in her Facebook post.

"They part ways while saying goodbye, walking in the opposite direction. A few minutes later, he comes running back, in what seems to be slow motion, yelling out my daughter's name. She turns around and is greeted by his smile."

"So they share a few words, mainly about his super cool shark's tooth that apparently gave him powers."

Wowed by the ease with which the pair bonded, Ayanna asked the boy's mum if she could take a photo of the kids together against the sunset.

His mum agreed, and the two children posed as if they were old friends.

"No one positioned them, told them to smile, and there was absolutely no hesitation on their part at all," she wrote. "When we finished walking and it was time to go they hugged for a long time and exchanged about 20 'goodbyes.'"

Highlighting how beautifully open-minded kids are, she went on to say that they don't judge on silly things the way adults sometimes do.

"This is a moment that we humans understand as just simply seeing no colour lines, no judgement, no race, no hate, no shades."

"It's just pure. Two kids meeting on a sunset walk without a care in the world and all they saw was each other. This world would be a much better place if we acted like these two kids."

Hear, hear. Let's hope the next generation continue to show us the way as they grow up.
