Like everything related to the law, adoption ain't a cheap process.

But Tristan Jacobson wasn’t about to let money get in the way of his happiness.

Having been left on the doorstep of a Missouri shelter four years ago, the nine-year-old was taken into the care of a woman named Donnie Davis.

He has been living with her ever since and, happier than ever with their life together, he’s adamant that he wants Donnie to adopt him.

However, Donnie is not very well-off, and the hefty legal fees involved has prevented her from taking the plunge.

So Tristan and Donnie hit on an idea.

As well as a sizable yard sale, the pair set up Tristan’s lemonade stand, with a goal to raise $5,000.

But word spread after they started a separate fundraiser on YouCaring called ‘Tristan’s Adoption Fund’ and they exceeded their goal by raising a total of $14,000.

Now, not only has Donnie got enough money to kick-start Tristan’s adoption, she has also been able to set up a trustfund for the boy’s education.

“There’s not enough words to say ‘thank you’ to everyone who has shown support or given us donations,” Donnie told SNL.

“Everyone has made this possible. We will make sure this child will forever be ours.”

And Tristan is even happier about it all.

"She (Donnie) will be my parent," he said. "I'm happy because I have a new mom who loves me."

It’s sad that money can stand in the way of a child’s happiness, but we’re delighted to see everyone pulling together to help out this wonderful family.
