It has been reported that up to 500,000 people may not be able to get their passports in time for their scheduled holiday due to the Passport Office being understaffed.
MP’s have said that they have been receiving hundreds of complaints from worried constituents who say their passports are taking twice as long as they should to be issued.
Unions for staff at the office say that they are working overtime to try and deal with the chaos that they say has been caused by office closures and job cuts.
Head of the Passport Office, Paul Pugh, has said that extra staff have been brought in: “We have processed more that 90 per cent of straightforward passport renewal and child applications within the three week target turnaround time. There is no backlog, with over 99 per cent of straightforward applications being processed within four weeks.”
Have you been affected by the backlog and are still awaiting you passport for your holiday this summer?
