Top ten books when mum and dad were children

 Winnie-the-Pooh by A.A. Milne
Winnie the Pooh is the first volume in a series depicting the life of Winnie-the-Pooh.
 
Set in One Hundred Acre Wood, this classic1926 children’s book is full of friendship and love and has been a favourite bedtime story for many years.
 
Pooh Bear is a warm hearted bear with an unhealthy obsession with honey. Many will remember the adventures that Pooh Bear goes on with his friends Piglet, Rabbit, Eeyore, Owl, Kanga and Roo, and Christopher Robin. 
 
Fantastic Mr. Fox by Roald Dahl
While the entire Roald Dahl series of stories are a credit to the author, the Fantastic Mr. Fox is still a favourite amongst readers.
 
Many will remember the adventures of Mr. Fox as he robs chickens, ducks and geese from Farmer Boggis, Farmer Bunce and Farmer Beans, three nasty and wealthy farmers. Of course, things don’t go to plan when the three farmers try to put a stop to the antics of  Mr. Fox.
 
Fantastic by name, fantastic by nature. 
 
Dogger by Shirley Hughes
Still a favourite amongst Shirley Hughes readers, the story of Dogger is a sweet depiction of what happens when a young child loses their favourite teddy. 
 
When Dogger is discovered lost Dave and his family frantically search everywhere for him, but to no avail. The innocence of childhood is realised as Dave goes to bed without Dogger.
 
Friendship and sibling love prevail in the end as Dave’s sister saves the day and reunites the young boy with his beloved teddy. 
 
Little Women by Louisa May Alcott
Many parents will remember reading Little Women, a coming of age classic, which follows the lives of four sisters Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy.
 
Set during World War II, the four sisters, come together as they deal with the loss of their family wealth.
 
An emotional read, as the four sisters learn that love and friendship will always prevail during times of hardship and heartbreak. 
 
The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis
Many of you will remember this fantasy novel, set during World War II. The lives of Peter, Susan, Edmund and Lucy Pevensie are changed forever after they are sent to the country to live with their eccentric uncle, Professor Kirke.
 
The siblings are brought on the adventure of a lifetime, to a world ruled by the White Queen, when Lucy accidently steps through a wardrobe and finds herself in Narina.

Told in the first person, Black Beauty is a beautiful classic children’s story that still proves popular amongst children to this day.

The collection of Mr. Men and Little Miss stories by Roger Hargreaves
Many parents still have the Roger Hargreaves collection of Mr. Men and Little Miss stories on their bookshelves.
 
The adventures of Mr. Bump, Mr. Tickles, Mr. Strong and Mr. Tall, first published in 1971, were followed by the Little Miss series of adventures.
 
Great, simple and funny stories it is no wonder they still prove a favourite amongst children to this day.

All children should be introduced to the Alfie series.
