On the 15th of January the facebook page Twogirlsandapuppy was set up with a photo of 5 young kids holding a sign saying their dad said they could get a puppy if they got 1 million likes. The five kids, two girls and three boys had been asking for a dog since their dog had recently died. Dad, Ryan Cordell admitted that 'They kept asking us for a new dog and we were trying to delay them'.
The girls’ mother, Evie Cordell, said that daughters Cadence and Emerson were joking with their father about how many likes they would need for a dog and they agreed on one million, with Dad Ryan assuming it would never happen.

The page was set up at 8pm and by midnight it had 10,000 likes. On January 16th, mum Evie updated the facebook page to say

Our profile picture just hit 1,000,000. Mom and Dad are officially stunned. Will have five ecstatic kids in the morning.

And true to their word, Mum and Dad Cordell set about the task of finding the right puppy from a rescue centre. Their search brought them to North Shore Animal League America and they found the gorgeous 'Millie'. Their facebook update for fans included a excited photo of the 5 kids with their rescue puppy and this message for fans:

Today the North Shore Animal League America on Long Island invited the kids to see some of their rescued puppies. We had a great visit with five great dogs and the girls chose to take Millie home! Thanks to those of you who suggested Millie for a million-vote puppy. We're so excited to welcome this new member to our household. Thanks so much to North Shore for inviting us.
