Thanks to medical miracles, we have seen many sick children’s lives transformed over the past number of years.

One amazing example has to be little two-year-old Ryan Aprea, who underwent surgery to help him to hear for the first time in his life.

Ryan’s proud parents recorded the moment that he first heard his mum’s voice, having undergone cochlear implant surgery in November, and they captured his beautiful response for the world to see.

Ryan can’t help but beam and giggle with delight as he hears his mum say: “Hi, Buddy!”

Born at 25 weeks gestation, Ryan spent the first seven months of his life in the neonatal intensive care unit in the hospital where he was born.

After undergoing the surgery, mum Jennifer admits that she wasn’t sure what to expect.

“Throughout this process, they had informed us that while sound would enter his brain, every child has a different response. We weren’t sure if his brain would process the sound, but we wanted to give him a chance to hear us and communicate because he is also visually impaired,” she said.

Saying that he has been interacting more since the surgery, she added: “My heart melts every single time he looks at me.”
