A 10-year old US girl’s kind gesture to a new boy who doesn’t speak English has gone viral, and we have to say, our eyes are welling up just a little here.

Californian schoolgirl Amanda Moore reached out to the boy, who had recently moved from Mexico, because he was having trouble making friends. So she decided to use Google Translate – which she was familiar with as her mum had hosted exchange students – to write him a letter.

And what she wrote is as simple as it is sweet. It read:

Would you like to sit with me today? Look for me and I will show you where I sit. We can colour or simply tell scary stories.

Thank you for your time, signed Amanda.

“She walked over and gave it to him, and he stared at Amanda and then he opened it up and was trying to read it,” Amanda's mum, Kimber Kinard, told ABC 7. “When he finished reading it, his eyes were welling up with tears and then Amanda's eyes were welling up with tears. And then the whole class stood up and applauded. He stood up and he hugged her.”

We can’t begin to imagine how scary it must be to start a new school, especially when you can’t understand the language. What big-hearted, compassionate Amanda has done for this little boy will no doubt never be forgotten.

“I don’t think that anyone should be alone and everyone should have a buddy,” she told ABC 7.
