Tillie Mae Aird was diagnosed with Wilms tumour, a rare kidney cancer, last December.

Mum Rachel was devastated by the news, and has struggled to watch her little girl undergo chemotherapy, radiation and surgery to remove the cancerous kidney.

In the run-up to Tillie Mae’s fifth birthday, Rachel decided to do what she could to make it extra special. So she started appealing to strangers to send Tillie birthday cards.

Sad that her girl has faced such a huge challenge so young, Rachel told The Liverpool Echo that “something as simple as a birthday card would make her feel so special.”

And after telling the newspaper her story, and posting like mad about her girl on Facebook, Rachel’s efforts paid off big-time.

Tillie Mae received over 600 cards from strangers across the UK, and even a few from other countries, including Greece.

The kindness didn’t stop there, either, with many strangers sending the little girl dolls and teddies to boot!

“We are overwhelmed by the cards and gifts from everyone, thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” Rachel wrote on Facebook.

We reckon Tillie Mae was pretty happy with what she got. Just look at that big smile!
