UVA and UVB come from the sun and penetrate the atmosphere of the earth. Although both types are responsible for different health risks, they're equally harmful to your skin.
UVA
UVA rays are less intense than UVB rays, however they are 30 to 50 times more prevalent and they penetrate the skin deeper than UVB rays. They are present with relatively equal intensity during all daylight hours throughout the year, and can penetrate clouds and glass. These rays play a major part in premature ageing of the skin.
UVB
UVB rays affect the superficial epidermal layers of the skin. They are the chief cause of skin reddening and sunburn. The intensity of UVB rays varies depending on the season, location, and time of day.
