In a post entitled ‘Don’t Mind The Gap’, mum Ange Pickett, tells us she was excited to go home one particular day as she knew her son’s school photographs would have arrived.

Like all parents, Ange was looking forward to gushing with pride and hanging them on the wall when she picked them up.

But something peculiar stood out from the snaps when she took her first peek... her son’s teeth.

His lovely gummy smile wasn’t so, and the mum had to double-check that she had not been imagining the fact that he already lost his two front teeth.

There he was, with a full set intact in his photographs, but yet as the eight-year-old stood beside Ange, there was a gummy gap.

The school photographers had photoshopped her son’s teeth from last year into his school photo’s from this year.

In Don’t Mind The Gap, Ange stated:

“At first, I thought they’d given us last year’s photo – but then I looked closer. Nope. His mouth had been photo-shopped with what looked like last year’s baby teeth swapped in.”

“Surely we have lost the plot when we start photoshopping an eight-year-old’s gappy grin.”

Ange wasn’t angry though, the mum was just baffled; not being able to comprehend why anyone would photoshop a child’s missing teeth.

Her son wasn’t upset that his teeth were missing, so why would adults?

“This is a kid who didn’t lose a tooth until he was almost seven. He’s not embarrassed by the gaps and wonky teeth, he’s excited because lost tooth = gold coin.

He doesn’t notice the crooked new teeth because he’s a kid.”

In an edited post following a conversation with the photo company, Ange was shocked to learn that in the past the company have been criticised for NOT photoshopping snaps that had messy hair, bruises, cuts and stained shirts.

However, Ange insists: “The best thing has been the realisation that for the most part parents want these memories of their kids to be just as they are.”

Adding: “I want my son to be able look back over all his school photos and see how he has changed.”

While we absolutely shudder everytime someone looks at our terrible school photo’s hanging in our homes, we believe that’s what makes our house a home.

How do you feel about this? Would you have the same reaction if this was your child?
