Christmas is meant to be a time of year when family and friends get together to celebrate and catch up.

Unfortunately however, for many households across the country dealing with bust-ups comes part and parcel with the big day.

In fact, according to new research, nearly half of British people surveyed are prepared to put their in-laws up in a hotel for the season to avoid the stress of having them in the house.

The survey conducted by Jurys Inn Hotel Group found that despite the 2,400 people polled putting in effort to ensure the day is perfect, nearly half admit that it often ends up in a full blown family feud.

Some of the main reasons for arguments include the guests forgetting their manners and hogging the remote control as well as being told what time to get up at and “treating the house like a hotel”.

Considering 63% of those surveyed will spend an extra £200 hosting family, it’s not surprising nearly half admit to feeling stressed and frustrated once it’s all over.

Would you have the nerve to tell them they can’t stay at yours…
