Journalist and writer Bryony Gordon had the perfect response to a person who wrote to her and tried to make her feel shameful about her body.

The Telegraph columnist shared a screenshot of the horrible message she received on Twitter, and captioned: “Reasons not to lose weight, part 856.”

The message to the writer read: “Dear Bryony, I have fantasised over you for several years (despite being several decades older than you) right up to the time you got married and I finally had to accept that you weren’t for me. Or should that be I realised that I wasn’t for you.

However, I have been extremely disappointed by your ballooning figure (as evidence by the photo at the top of your DT column) and your article a few months ago stating, effectively, that you didn’t care about such things anymore.

What a disappointment! What does your husband think? I’m sure that he would welcome you making an effort to lose weight and regain your former attractiveness. A whole series of articles charting your progress beckons.

I’m only taking the opportunity to write to you like this in the hope that it will help you find the necessary self-will to give weight-loss a go.”

Wow - given the nature of the message, the writer is luck Bryony took it as well as she did!
