Eight-year-old Heidi VanSumeren loves books, so naturally, she was heartbroken when a fire broke out in her house, destroying her beloved books.

So she was heartened when children's author and illustrator Bob Shea came to Heid's Michigan school for 'March is Reading Month.'
Heidi told Bob her story, and he really felt for the little one.

And so, in a bid to bring a smile back to her face, Bob reached out to other authors and illustrators on Twitter, asking them to help replace Heidi's books. Wonderfully, Bob's tweets lead to a whopping 300 book donations.

Alongside the books she's received to date, she has also been given a desk and chair, bookshelves and new art supplies.

And the cherry on top? Authors left Heidi some lovely personal messages within the books - a bookworm's dream!

“We ended up with three backpacks and three big totes full of books,” her mum Beth told ABC News. “She loves looking at every book because a lot of the authors signed them or wrote a message for her inside.”

At the moment, the books are camping out at Heidi's school, but Heidi's making sure they soon make their way to her home - or at least, to her grandparents' home, where her family have been staying since the fire.

Delighted with her new books, Heidi made a lovely little video describing how the acts of kindness made her feel. You can watch the adorable bookworm below.
