When bush fires swept across the state of California, it destroyed the homes of many families in the North Bay area.

Nine-year-old, Loren, was just one of the people affected by the tragic fires, his possessions lost alongside his home.

But for a child of his age, his loss was centred around his love for baseball.

A big Athletics fan, Loren was devastated to lose the memorabilia he has been collecting during his life time.

The boy from Santa Rosa has aspirations to become a professional player some day as he explains to the Athletics team in a hand written note he passed on.

The letter states: "I love watching your A's game, I want to be an A's player. [...] I play baseball in my yard all day, making up my own game."

"In my backyard they have won six world series in a row."

However, Loren revealed his 'saddest' loss when his house went up in flames: "My baseball collection cards, my 17 jerseys and 10 hats and my baseball from the game signed by the whole team."

While he is sad his nine year card collection is forever gone, Loren keeps his spirits up by teaching his nine-month-old brother how to throw a baseball each day.

The nine-year-old claimed he knew the team would not be all together when they received the letter, but wanted them to know he was still their number one fan.

The letter which was shared to Twitter by Katie Utehs, has sparked a lot of kind gestures and an amazing sense of camaraderie.

Many users have asked for a way to help the youngster, some offering to send cards for his collection, others simply wanting to donate.

While we know this family are all glad to still be together, it's nice to see sport continuing to unite people for the better - here's hoping Loren gets his collection back.
