An exchange between your parents and your child will be enough to show just how times have changed, but the following delightful story has really driven the generation gap home.

A British woman is overwhelmed this week after her childhood letters sent to Santa Claus were discovered by the family who purchased her old home.

Christine Churchill sent her Santa letters up the chimney over 75 years ago, aged five, requesting “some nice toys and a hymn book” from the man in the big red suit.

In another letter, Christine asked for a box of crayons and a pair of scissors, showing that tastes and requests were much simpler all those years ago.

It was Julia Pugh, the current owner of the Powys property, who discovered the letters when recently helping her family to convert the stately home into a high-end wedding venue.

“The hall was pretty run down so we started work by sweeping all the chimneys. I’m so pleased we did, as we found the wonderful letters to Father Christmas from the little girl who lived in the hall with her family,” Julia told local news.

Recalling the moment she was presented with her old letters, Christine – now 82 – said: “I was flabbergasted to see the letters. I remember we were told to put them up the chimney in the playroom, I presume because it was not in use.”

What an incredible story. We’re sure Christine treasures these mementoes from her past.
