Do kids make us better people? DEFINITELY.
Our children are beyond precious, and not just because we are instinctively programmed to love them unconditionally. Nope, they also give us something amazing – the impetus to become better people.
There are SO many ways having kids makes us better people – we become kinder, braver, more compassionate, fiercer and more positive.
Like this:
1. They help us reconnect with the child in us
Children have a wonderful perspective on the world – often so simple, yet so wise. As we get older, the stresses and strains of being adults can make us forget what it was like to see the world the way they do.
2. We learn TRUE selflessness
You haven’t really known true selflessness unless you’ve had kids. All of a sudden they’re the number one priority, and we would sacrifice anything to make sure they’re safe and happy.
3. They teach us the real meaning of life
So strong is the feeling of love and the desire to protect, that all other ‘petty’ worries fade into insignificance. Loving our children teaches us that the real meaning of life isn’t in financial trappings or vanity, it’s just that, loving them.
4. They help us not take life too seriously
Show us someone funnier than a kid and we’ll be shocked. Children are so naturally funny and gleeful, that we can’t help loosening up and laughing along with them – even if it’s at ourselves. Actually, especially if it’s at ourselves!
5. We become less judgmental
As parents, we are so proud of our kids, and encourage them to be whoever they want. This loving acceptance seeps into other areas of our lives and teaches us to be more compassionate and understanding of others.
How has your precious child changed you for the better? We’d love to hear from you!
