Read books
There are many books that tell of the story of the nativity that are suitable for youngsters. These are a great way for your little one to not only understand the meaning of Christmas and its origin but also as a way for you to bond.
Tell stories
Each and every family finds a different meaning in the festive season, so talk to your little one about what it means to you. Creating happiness and joy, helping others, showing kindness and being there for others are just some of the things you might like to talk to your child about. For instance, explaining why people give money to charity to help them put things into perspective or give them money to donate so they have a physical representation of being charitable.
Sing songs
Songs are another great way to teach your little one all about the festive season and what each symbol - such as the wreath - means. There are loads of festive ones that you can download or why not make up your own with your little one so that it becomes more personal and meaningful to your family.
Watch movies
Christmas movies are great to show toddlers the true meaning of Christmas, and keep them entertained at the same time. Films like the Polar Express or the Snowman teach the importance of friendship and being there for each other, while the Muppets Christmas Carol shows children the importance of being good all year.
Make your own Christmas cards
After you have read the books and watched the movies, get your little one to make their own Christmas cards about what they see as the true meaning of Christmas and send them to all your family and friends.
