The thought of dressing yourself in pregnancy turns many mums-to-be into a tailspin. But it need not be so difficult. Here are a few tips to make that stage a bit simpler...

Before you buy anything, check your wardrobe

Just because you have a baby bump, that doesn't mean you can't wear any of your normal clothes. Most of us have loose items of clothes that could masquerade pretty well as maternity attire.

If your wardrobe has none of the above, buy them!

Maxi dresses, oversized tops, slouchy jumpers..these are all super trendy and give you that smart casual look that's all the rage these days.

Embrace maternity jeans early on

This is a good idea from the point of view of comfort alone. Stretchy waistbands in maternity jeans are there for a reason: they make your life easier.

Plus, you'll get to skip the 'I don't fit into my jeans' depression stage!

Don't try squeezing into your normal undergarments

Whether it comes to tights, you can't expect to fit into your ordinary ones. That thick waistband digging into your baby bump  will not be comfortable. You'll only wear them for a few months, but do yourself a favour and invest in some maternity versions. .

...that includes bras

During pregnancy, most of us gain weight pretty everywhere...including in the bust department. And it's unlikely you'll get your usual size back for a good few months post-birth.

In any case, steer clear of cheap bras that can't handle wear and tear. Instead, buy quality ones you love because you'll probably be in them for a while!

Invest in a comfy pair of runners

Pregnancy is draining, and why wouldn't it be? You're carrying around a much heavier load than usual. That's why it's a good idea to get yourself a quality pair of bouncy runners.

And the good news is that they're actually pretty trendy these days. Fashionable and functional - what more do you want?!

Think thrifty

With the exception of bras, this makes perfect sense.

Maternity versions are to be worn during pregnancy and possibly for a few months afterwards, but beyond that? Nope. With that in mind, it's best to buy cheap. When you start shopping, don't forget to check online. Lots of bargains to be had in cyber-space!
