According to a survey which was carried out by Cancer Research UK, a staggering number of adults in the UK would move to ban the advertisement of junk food on television before 9pm.

The poll, which gauged the opinions of more than 1,700 participants, established that 74% of adults would support the proposed ban while 55% would also back a tax on sugary drinks - a proposal put forward by TV chef, Jamie Oliver.

Further to this, participants asserted that further measures should be put in place in order to curb the rise of childhood obesity - an epidemic which 82% of respondents admitted caused considerable concern.

In addition to a television ban and sugary drink tax, 70% of those surveyed believe that there should be a reduction in online advertisements of junk food while 66% want to see a decrease in the availability and advertisement of junk food promotions.

As it stands, the UK government has resisted calls to implement a tax on sugary drinks, but with a staggering percentage of the public supporting the proposed measures, this may not be the case for long.
