She has been embroiled in a bitter custody battle with her former partner for the past three years, which has seen her children living in a separate country to her, so the recent turn of events has come as quite a relief to actress Kelly Rutherford.

The former Gossip Girl actress was left devastated earlier this year when a judge order for her two children with ex-husband Daniel Giersch to live with their father in France. While the judge had ordered joint custody, Giersch’s lack of a valid US visa resulted in an arrangement for Kelly to travel from America to Monaco for visitation.

However, Kelly’s situation took a turn for the positive recently, when the court ordered for eight-year-old Hermes and six-year-old Helena to live with their mother temporarily while Giersch works on getting a valid visa.

Kelly appeared on The View this week to speak about her “emotional” reunion with her children, and to update viewers on what they have been up to.

“It’s incredible. It’s emotional and we’re all a little bit jet-lagged, but happy,” said the 46-year-old, revealing that Helena had learned how to ride a bike the day previous.

Touching on the subject of her custody battle, the mother-of-two said: “I think what people don’t understand is that this is a victory for me. Previously their father only let me see them 11 days this year in Europe.”

Kelly went on to reveal that, according to official documents from the US State Department, Giersch has so far made no attempt to get his visa reinstated.

The star made a number of emotional pleas for State-intervention in her case earlier this year, even launching a petition to the White House for assistance in getting her children back to the US.
