Some of us can’t imagine starting our busy day without a cup of good, strong coffee in the morning.
But before you toss the coffee grounds away, try putting them to good use around your home.
Air freshener for your car
With football gear, sticky ice-cream and muddy shoes to contend with, your car can probably do with a freshening up. Overpowering air fresheners can do more to mask the smell than get rid of it, but coffee grounds will actually absorb the stinky odours. Simply cut up a pair of old tights or stockings, pour your coffee grounds into the ‘foot’ of the tights and tie it off with a knot, before popping it into your car.
Plant fertiliser
Coffee grounds can be put to great use, not just around the house, but in the garden too. Once a month, sprinkle 3/4 cup of coffee grounds into your soil. The acidity will work wonders in the garden.
Surface cleaner
The rough texture of coffee grounds make it great for getting grime and stubborn stains off of counter tops and kitchen surfaces. Use them alone or mix in a little dish detergent.
Scratch remover
First, apply used coffee grounds to the scuff with a cotton wool bud. Then, allow them to sit on the spot for five to 10 minutes. Finally, buff them away using a cotton rag.
Deodoriser
If there’s a stinky odour in your house, like the fridge, just place a bowl of grounds near the spot and let the coffee naturally absorb the smell.

Insect repellent
Bugs hate acidic coffee grounds, so simply build a mound of grounds around the plants targeted by ants and slugs, and watch them scarper.
