An announcement made yesterday by Childcare Minister, Sam Gyimah, is likely to be met with open arms by innumerable families in Nottinghamshire today.
The announcement, which outlined a new government measure, is set to offer 30 hours of free childcare to parents of three and four-year-old children.
It has been revealed that the Nottinghamshire County Council was one of 25 local authorities chosen to take part in the pilot programme which comprises part of a new Government scheme.
Having been allocated £4 million to support the childcare scheme, authorities have doubled the free childcare allowance, with parents of three and four-year-old children having been previously entitled to 15 hours of free childcare per week.
The scheme will go into operation in September of this year.
