Working parents across Britain have this week been welcomed to apply for two new Government childcare schemes.

Working parents of children who will be aged under four on August 31, 2017, can apply through a digital childcare service for tax-free childcare; they can also receive a government top-up of £2 for every £8 they pay into their tax-free childcare account.

The programme is available to working families with children under the age of 12, including those who are self-employed. The age restriction is extended to 17 years for families with children who have disabilities.

According to the Government website set up specifically for the new schemes, you could receive up to £2,000 per child under the new regulations.

In order to qualify, both parents must each expect to earn (on average) at least £120 per week. Families expecting to earn £100,000 or more will not be eligible to apply for this particular scheme.

Applications have also opened for another scheme, enabling working families to avail of 30 hours’ free childcare. This particular scheme is open to working parents with three-year-old (before August 31) and four-year-old children.

In order to qualify for the programme, both parents must expect to earn (on average) at least £120 a week. As with the other scheme, you cannot avail of the programme if you or your partner expect to earn £100,000 or more.

This scheme is available in participating nurseries and nursery classes, playgroups and pre-schools, childminders, and Sure Start Children’s Centres.

The latest childcare schemes were announced in the Budget reveal, in March, and received widespread praised from parents over the country.
