It's October and we know that that means spooky season.

And what is one of the most recognisable Halloween symbols? The pumpkin, of course.

That's why the National Botanic Gardens in Dublin has run a pumpkin decorating competition.

The spookiest and most creative one takes the crown and there were hundreds of entries.

The many decorated pumpkins are on display until just after Halloween after the carving competition.

And how gorgeous are these ghostly jack-o-lanterns?

They have given us some major inspiration for our pumpkins as well as making us even more excited for the frightening holiday if that was possible.

The event is popular with the visitors every Halloween, with large numbers taking part.

It's a fun event that's ideal for families - and the pumpkins will stay as part of a fantastic exhibition that will run until just after Halloween.
