A popular YouTube vlogger has shared an extremely brave and honest account of her experience of miscarriage, in the hope it will help and comfort other women who have been through the same thing.

Anna Saccone is a vlogger from the US who lives in Surrey in England with her husband and two kids. Recently she lost her baby at six weeks, although devastatingly she carried the foetus inside her until she miscarried at 11 weeks.

When Anna visited the doctor for an appointment, it seemed that her baby had stopped growing. However, doctors were unsure if it was a miscarriage, or if her timeline was off.

“It took my body that long to recognise the pregnancy wasn’t viable – this is called a missed miscarriage,” she says. “At this point I still felt pregnant, I was still experiencing pregnancy symptoms.”

In the emotional video, Anna speaks about the research she made into miscarriage, expressing surprise at how common it was. However, she found a dearth of information on the topic, something she found upsetting.

“Only a handful or people posting about their experience,” she said. “None of these videos had a lot of views, they were buried, and that made me sad because if you look at the comments on the videos or blogs or on in forums you realise so many women go through it and its way more common than people think. It was something I found helpful, to hear other experiences, and I feel more people should talk about it.”

This, she says, is why she has decided to share her raw account.

We salute this brave woman for breaking the silence on miscarriage and in her own way doing what she can to quash the stigma that sadly exists. We hope her actions encourage other women to speak and share.
