A brave mum has shared shocking images of a car accident to raise awareness about the importance of a correctly installed car seat.

Kylee Barrett was doing a regular morning school run with her children five-year old Kolton and baby Hunter when the car hit black ice and went off the road.

Although the family had to be cut out of the truck, thankfully Kylee was fine, while Hunter escaped with a broken femur and Kolton with a bump on his head.

She attributes their safe escape to her children’s properly installed car seats.

“Please everyone keep your kids rear facing as long as possible!” she wrote in an emotional post on her Facebook page.

“This morning me and the boys were on our way to Kolton’s school 5 minutes from our house when I hit black ice and went off the road. I hit a tree and flipped my truck smashing Hunters side completely. Hunter has a broken femur and has to get castes from the waist down my poor baby is ok other than that and I can say him being rear facing is the reason why! And Kolton who is 5 was in his booster with a seat belt and only has a bump on his head. Please don’t use the excuse he doesn’t like to be rear facing or he’s too big! We all had to be cut out of the truck and thank god nothing more happened!”

This could have been so much worse. We're glad they are all okay, and are so grateful to Kylee for sharing her experience.
