As any mother will attest, pregnancy can be full of ups and downs, so it's no surprise the vast majority of us spend nine months devouring literature on the subject and seeking answers to questions which had never crossed our minds before that little blue line appeared.

In response to this, a hospital in the UK has launched an app, believed to be the first of its kind, which will give expectant mothers access to a plethora of information regarding their nine-month journey..

St Michael's Hospital in Bristol have created an app which ultimately cuts down on the distribution of pregnancy pamphlets and information booklets, and allows pregnant women to access facts, figures and statistics at the touch of a button.

Obstetric consultant, Dr Louise Ashelby, asserted that the team acted on the feedback of the public, explaining: "More than 75 per cent of the women we surveyed said they would use an app to access information during pregnancy."

Highlighting its many benefits, Dr. Ashelby continued: "The majority of women have their phone on them most of the time, but they won't always carry their leaflets. Now they can access the information they need at any time, wherever they are. The app will also benefit the environment since fewer leaflets will be printed."

Unlike other pregnancy apps, the information is specific to the Bristol hospital and contains information collated and compiled by the hospital's maternity team.

The "My Pregnancy at St. Michael's" is free to download on Apple and Android services, and is available to women planning to give birth at the aforementioned hospital or those simply in the process of researching birthing options.
