Chloe Lewis has bravely opened up about her miscarriage heartache ahead of welcoming her first child. The mum told OK! Magazine that she had lost her baby’s twin when she was 8 weeks pregnant.
After experiencing bleeding in the night, the mum-to-be visited her doctor, who revealed the heartbreaking news to the former TOWIE star.
Chloe explained that she had no idea she was expecting twins, “The next day I booked a scan with a private doctor, and she said: ‘There’s baby number one and baby number two.’ I was shocked.”
The reality star had to wait three weeks to find out if she had lost the twin.
"The doctor did confirm the twins had been identical. That was so sad for me to hear. I kept thinking this one is going to come out and they would have looked exactly the same. This is common, though; it’s called vanishing twin syndrome,” she revealed.
Vanishing twin syndrome occurs when a twin or multiple disappears in the uterus as a result of a miscarriage. The fetal tissue is then absorbed by the other baby, placenta or the expectant-mum, hence the term ‘vanishing/disappearing twin syndrome’.
Chloe continued, “I grieved for about three months. I felt like I had gone into a hole, like I had lost a child. I felt like I had done something wrong because it was my body. Was I going to the gym too much? You start questioning yourself.”
Chloe’s partner Danny helped her realise just how lucky she was that her other baby was still healthy. This helped her focus on the pending arrival of their first child in a positive way.
She stressed, “I know people who have carried twins all the way and lost one during labour so I felt like I was being stupid dwelling on something that was nothing anyway. I had to close the door on it and think that it wasn’t a fully formed baby and people go through so much worse."
The mum-to-be said she will most certainly tell her baby about their twin when they’re born, stressing that it won’t be a secret.
