It was the report that devastated people all over the world, but we are glad to be able to share one very positive update in the sad story of toddler Daniel Milliken.
The 17-month-old’s family today revealed that Daniel, whom doctors believed may not pull through, will live for “a long time”.
Little Daniel underwent major invasive surgery after an accident in his home. The tot fell while climbing up a chest of drawers in his New Zealand home, and ended up ‘critically injured’ after pulling a television set on top of himself.
Daniel’s family said at the time that his treatment would take anywhere from months to years – and that was if he survived at all.
In a miraculous turn of events, Daniel has actually had his breathing tube removed and has been discharged from intensive care. While doctors believe the toddler will never walk again, his family are just relieved that their little one is still with them.
Half-brother Michael Clarke told local media: “The doctor pretty much said that he would die within minutes or there was a very small chance he could live longer, but they weren’t going to get our hopes up.”
“We’ve had a bit of a Christmas miracle…the doctor told us within minutes of removing the tube that he’d live for a long time,” he added.
Daniel has now begun to regain consciousness and doctors are beginning to wean him off morphine.
Our hearts go out to Daniel’s family at this time, and the little one will remain in our thoughts and prayers.
