Members of a Northern Irish community have expressed concern over the safety standards of a local road following the tragic death of a six-year-old boy this week.
According to news reports, the unnamed child lost his life after he was knocked down by a car travelling along the Scrabo Road in Newtownards, Co.Down.
The devastating news has heightened locals’ fears regarding the stretch of road, which many say already poses a dangerous threat to those travelling along it.

According to Belfast Live, locals have previously expressed concern over unsafe conditions on the road, with the lack of speed bumps among them. Other members of the community referenced how sunlight rising over nearby hills frequently impairs drivers’ vision.
There have been calls for immediate action to be taken, to ensure the safety of all people and vehicles who pass over the Scrabo Road following yesterday’s tragedy, although for one family it has come far too late.
“It’s sad if it takes something like this for them to take action,” one local told Belfast Live.
Our hearts go out to the family of the little boy at this sad and most difficult time. Let’s hope that local government will take action to prevent any future tragedies from occurring in the area.
