Lizzie Timmons spent much of her early years without a father.
Although she loved her ‘granddaddy’, she envied her friends and the close bonds they shared with their dads.
So this Father’s Day, she decided to do something about it. Even though she’s all grown up now, she presented her mum’s husband Bill with a special gift, and a touching letter which Bill reads in the heartwarming video below.
“There was a time I never thought I’d have a dad,” Lizzie wrote.
“I thought all of my friends at school doing things with their dads and even though I had a granddaddy there was still a void.”
Then, as she explains in her letter, Bill arrived on the scene.
“All that changed when you and my mom got married,” Lizzie wrote. “You took me to the doctor when I got sick, you held my hand when I cried, and you always made sure I was taken care of.”
She goes on to explain how he walked her down the aisle and took care of her kids, and insists that “you loved me more than most.”
Then she makes the request.
“No words or actions can describe how grateful I am to you for all you did for me,” she wrote.
“I don’t usually get you anything for Father’s Day, but I wanted to this year. This gift is not just for you, but for me as well. Happy Father’s Day, I love you.”
At this point, Bill turns to Lizzie and tells her “I love you too,” before opening up the gift that she’s given him.
At first it seems like just a bunch of papers – but Bill quickly realises that they’re not just any papers: they’re adoption papers so that he can officially become Lizzie’s dad.
As you can imagine, Bill doesn’t hesitate and looks about for a pen without a second’s thought.
“That is better than anything I could have ever gotten,” Bill said.
