A mum whose baby died in utero due to a common infection has shared her story in the hope that other mums-to-be can be aware of the dangers.

Jamie-Lee Groves, 27, thought she could never have children after a car accident crushed her pelvis when she was 20, reported Kidspot. So when she became pregnant with baby Amelia-Rose she was over the moon.

However, heartbreakingly at 26-weeks Jamie-Lee began to feel what she thought were contractions, and not long after, her waters broke. She was induced but Amelia-Rose died before she was born.

Doctors told Jamie-Lee that a simple urinary tract infection (UTI) had caused her waters to break prematurely.

“No one told me that a urinary tract infection could have such a devastating effect,” she explained.

“I just hope other women read this and become more aware of the dangers. If you feel like something is wrong, insist that your doctors listen to you. If I can save one other parent going through what I did with losing Amelia, then at least that’s something.”

Signs of a UTI

Unfortunately, sometimes UTI’s can be symptomless, like Jamie-Lee’s, but there are some tell-tale signs that come with the infection:

-A burning feeling when you urinate

-A frequent or intense urge to urinate, even though little comes out when you do

-Pain or pressure in your back or lower abdomen

-Cloudy, dark, bloody, or strange-smelling urine

-Feeling tired or shaky

-Fever or chills (a sign the infection may have reached your kidneys)

The bravery and selflessness of this mum has brought us close to tears. We are so thankful to her for sharing her story despite her unimaginable pain.
