The image which has been circulated across various social media platforms shows the female medic giving the victory sign with one hand while her other hand is placed on the patient's genitals.
The photograph has been slammed by Malaysia's health minister, Dr. Seri Subra, who has promised to take action against the medical professional who is understood to work at the Johor Bahru hospital in Johor on the Malay Peninsula.
While it is understood that other professionals in the field, such as nurses, have been involved in similar incidents, it is believed to be the first time a doctor has been implicated in such an event.
Following an investigation conducted by a medical ethics panel, it will be decided whether the doctor in question will be dismissed or simply fined for her conduct.
It is understood officials will also be seeking to establish the identity of the photographer behind the recent image.
