Say it isn't so! Disney's highly anticipated live-action adaptation of Mulan won't be released for over another year.

The studio took a year to search for the perfect actress to play the titular character. They eventually found their ideal warrior woman: Chinese actress Liu Yifei, also known as Crytal Liu.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the film's new release date is March 27, 2020.

Due to the exhaustive process to find the right Mulan, Disney has known for a while they wouldn't be able to meet their original release date in November this year.

Considering that the casting directors visited five continents and saw 1,000 Mulan hopefuls, it's no wonder that the film has been pushed back by over a year!

The film is set to be directed by New Zealander Niki Caro, who wrote and directed the award-winning film Whale Rider

She is reportedly the second woman at Disney to direct a movie budgeted at over $100 million. The first is Ava DuVernay for A Wrinkle in Time, which is out later this month.

Well, one thing's for sure - we will be in the cinema in March 2020, ready to see our favourite cartoon warrior save China!
