As any mum bringing up a child in the digital age will know, our children these days are so technologically-savvy they’re leaving the rest of us for dust.

By the time we’ve finally gotten used to our latest gadget, our kids will have moved on to the next must-have gizmo.

If you’re concerned about the amount of time your child is spending on the family iPad or indeed their own iPhone, then why not ensure the whole process is an educational, but enjoyable, one?

They’re happy, you’re happy and, as we all know, learning through play is one of the most effective ways of absorbing knowledge and information.

Here are five educational apps us mums need to know about!

1. Mystery Math Town

Your child will have great fun investigating haunted houses, but what they don't know is that they’re also keeping their brain ticking over by having to solve numerical-based puzzles to gain access to the next stage of the game.

2. Endless Alphabet

Your child will be entertained by a helpful, friendly monster while they attempt to rearrange letters and form words in this reading app. Based on a reward process, your little one will be treated to a colourful animation with every correct move!

3. Bridge Constructor

This is the perfect app for any iPad- obsessed tween or teenager in your house. Your child will need to put both their economic and physics skills to the test by designing and building bridges which must meet safety regulations and financial budgets! You could have a young engineer in the making!

4. Jungle Time

For any child struggling to tell the time, this app is an absolute must-have. Not being able to read time can be a source of embarrassment for many kids, so if they can get to grips with it while having fun in this jungle adventure-based app, then time on the iPad is very well spent!

5. Hakitzu: Code of the Warrior

If your child is interested in technology from an early age, then chances are they could find this coding app a real treat! Hakitzu: Code of the Warrior will teach your son or daughter about JavaScript language by encouraging them to build a robot capable of fighting against friends or bad guys!

Limiting your child’s time on their gadget or gizmo will always be met with resistance, but ensuring that they’re having fun while learning will make for a very peaceful household!
