Eight-year-old Josh Johns was diagnosed with leukaemia in April of last year, and was put on an intense chemotherapy programme for six months which left him very weak.
The chemotherapy meant that the family holiday had to be cancelled which not surprisingly left Josh devastated.
To help him feel better, his parents Nikki and Jason issued a plea to help their son see the world through postcards.
And while they initially expected just a few to come in the door, the total number of cards sends has reached an incredible 3,700.
Talking about the incredible response, Nikki said: "We are so grateful to everyone who is still sending postcards, we cannot express how much quicker it makes time go by when Josh and the rest of us have things to look forward to."
It started when dad Jason asked his brother Matthew to send Josh a postcard the next time he went to America on business. When Matthew subsequently took to Facebook asking his friends to do the same, the post went viral.
Postcards have been sent from as far afield as Antarctica and Trinidad and Tobago with one worker in Disney Land, Florida, collecting and sending the youngster autographs of all the Disney characters.
Celebrities have even gotten involved with Robert Downey Jr. and David Tennant sending the youngster a postcard.
According to the Mirror, so far, Josh has received 900 cards from Europe, 424 from America, 249 from Australia, 148 from Africa and 129 from Asia.
